Big Bazaar, the large format, value retail chain of Kishore Biyani owned Pentaloon India, opened its 4th store, on Friday, in Ahmedabad, which is also the 36th store in the country. Presently, Big Bazaar retail chain is spread over 30 cities across the country. Big Bazaar announced that it will set up 12 more stores in Ahmedabad and will double the number of its stores in Gujarat in a time period of one year. It was further announced that by June 2007, Big Bazaar will have 75 to 80 stores across the country. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Mr Rajan Malhotra, Head of Big Bazar India’s Concept Division, said that, “the intention is to ensure that the Big Bazaar concept reaches out to more and more home makers, enabling them to extract the maximum out of their budget.”
Talking about the plans for Gujarat state,Sadashiv Nayak, Head-Operations (West Zone) said that Big Bazaar would open the company’s biggest store of Gujarat in Surat on 24th November, 2006. This will be the company’s 39th store. Meanwhile, the 37th and 38th stores will be launched in Allahabad and Coimbatore. The Company is also planning to expand its network by entering tier II and III cities, including, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Mehsana, and Bhavnagar.
